In other other news.....ummmm.....oh that's right, a snippet of Ulola:

It was a cold winter afternoon and Mirri was alone. She liked being alone, to wander the streets of town and gather tidbits of information. Some people called it eavesdropping, but Mirri never revealed what she heard, so there was no danger of hurting anyone with gossip. She liked to keep secrets. They were hers, never to be voiced again, only thought of in the quietest hours of the night, or in the most secretive of places.
She liked listening to the people in town, but also to watch creatures of the forest. She could sit still for hours, waiting for the lonely doves and the rare miniature horses of the northern forests. How lovely and wary they were, as they slowly grazed on the delicate grasses. The tiniest of disturbances would startle them away.
Today Mirri was intent on following the neighbors irritable old cat, Kaye. He always squirmed and scratched when anyone held him. Mirri didn't mind though, all she wanted was to watch him and find out his secrets. Animals had a different sort of secrets than people, but they had them none the less. Kaye was slowly crossing a stone bridge when he was scooped up by a girl about Mirri's age.
Mirri knew every child in town, and what they thought about each other, but she did not know this girl. She was as tall as Mirri, but quite thin. She had long, soft hair as white as Mirri's grandmother. Her eyes were like wild raspberries, vibrant and solitary. In her arms Kaye was curled, purring as the girl stroked his nose.
"How do you do that?" Mirri exclaimed.
"Do what?" the girl replied, still stroking the old cat.
"Kaye doesnt like to be held. He always wriggles and claws at people."
"Cats only claw when people are rude. You must always ask them politely if you can hold them. It's common courtesy."
I didnt know that, Mirri replied, still puzzled by the cats sudden change of character.
Kaye tells me that you follow him, and no matter where he goes, he cant shake you off his course. Why would you follow a cat?
